To assist in the preventive maintenance and repairs of all KISD vehicle fleet. To assist in bus driving duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Must be 18 years of age.
High School Graduate or GED, preferred
Valid Texas driver’s license
Special Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
Ability to diagnose minor mechanical problems and perform repairs with supervision.
Ability to operate tools and equipment involved in vehicle repair and lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts.
Knowledge of student discipline procedure and the ability to manage student behavior.
Acceptable driving record and the ability to pass alcohol and drug test.
Experience:
Preferred: One-year experience in auto mechanics (vehicle repair and maintenance).
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Vehicle Operation
- Perform minor mechanical repairs or work under supervision of a mechanic to repair or replace tires, bulbs, and accessories.
- Disassemble simple components and clean parts for re-assembly.
- Assist mechanic with all required duties such as repairs of district vehicle fleet and ordering of supplies, parts and record keeping.
- Inspect, repair, change, and rotate tires.
- Clean shop floors, stalls, driveways, tools, and equipment.
- Will be required to periodically work additional hours over 40 to ensure job requirements are met, especially in emergencies.
Safety
- Operate tools equipment, and machinery according to established safety procedures.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
- Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aide kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crowbar, and reflector.

11. Operate a two-way radio equipment to communicate with transportation office and other buses. Work irregular hours as needed.
12. Perform other duties as assigned by the mechanic or Transportation Foreman on all matters pertaining to vehicle maintenance or safety hazards.

Uses automotive diagnostic equipment, wheel balancing equipment, tire repairing equipment, small hand power tools, hand tools, air tools, welding torch, torque wrench, jacks, stepladders, fire extinguisher, school bus, safety equipment (flares, reflective signs).

Maintain emotional control under stress. Continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand and arm motions. Some strenuous walking, standing, and/or climbing; heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, some stooping, bending, kneeling, carrying. Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts. Exposure to hot and cold, dampness and humidity, dust, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline and diesel fuel. Walking on slippery or uneven surfaces and work on ladders.
