All counselors shall maintain a working knowledge of grade level graduation requirements, description and credit value of courses offered at the high school, and college entrance requirements necessary to properly guide students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Shall have a valid Texas Counselor Certificate,
- Three (3) years teaching experience, and
- Master’s Degree in counseling from an accredited college or university

Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Shall be responsible for scheduling individual conferences with each student each year for the purpose of pre-registration and reviewing and making necessary adjustments toward graduation.
- Shall provide orientation activities for incoming class.
- Shall provide individual and group guidance with regard to personal and school related problems.
- Shall provide students with pertinent information on scholarships and financial aid.
- Interpret standardized test results and assessment data to guide students in individual goal setting and planning.
- Shall be responsible for planning and organizing Baccalaureate Graduation, Honors and an Awards Assembly, College Night, and Guidance Seminars.
- Are responsible for preparing Course Description Booklet and assisting with computer master scheduling. Are responsible for maintaining data processing scheduling and grade reporting through service center.
- Are responsible for assisting in planning and preparation for summer school, as well as serving as summer school counselor.
- Are responsible for supervision of counselor’s secretary, data processing clerk, and office assistants.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations
- Adhere to legal, ethical, and professional standards for school counselors including current professional standards of competence and practice.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular district-wide travel to multiple
work locations as needed; moderate lifting and carrying. Attend out of town
meetings.
